Complete Decongestive Therapy

For Lymphedema or Venous Insufficiency

Lymphedema is an abnormal swelling of an area of the body due to the accumulation of fluid called lymph- an integral part of the immune system.  This swelling is most often seen as a result of breast cancer treatment, including surgery and/or radiation, wherein lymph nodes have been removed or damaged.  It may also be the result of other trauma to the lymph nodes in other areas of the body such as the neck, the abdomen and the groin.

Venous Insufficiency occurs when the valves in the leg veins are unable to pump blood to your heart.  The most common causes of venous insufficiency are previous cases of blood clots and varicose veins. In some cases, weakness of the leg muscles that help squeeze blood forward may also contribute to venous insufficiency.

A certified therapist will come to your home to evaluate the need for and provide therapy, education and resources for the treatment and lifetime management of your swelling.  The program includes:

1) immaculate skin care

2) manual lymph drainage

3) compression bandages & garments

4) decongestive exercises

All treatments will be thoroughly explained and demonstrated by the lymphedema certified therapist.

A physician’s referral must precede initial treatment.
